Had the older Duel HLs on my Explorer. Lasted 63,000 miles had 5/32 tread left with mixed city/highway driving. However they were dry rotting after 7 years and were ridding hard as rubber apparenlty was getting harder. Went to Michelin LTX just because I wanted to try them and a $50 rebate.
I just put these on my Ranger and Liberty a month or so ago and am so far very pleased. Very quiet and the ride is nice. I was in one rain storm (a rarity here) with them for a short time in the Ranger and the traction seemed good, even with the light rear end.
Not sure what size you are after, but some of them are H rated tires which is very nice. The 235-70-16's on the Liberty is one example, the others are T.
These were installed on a Aviator (P245/65HR17). Truthfully I've only driven it twice. Seem good so far.
I've had good luck with Bridgestone tires, the following day I put Bridgestone G009 on my Pontiac which replaced RE950's which I got almost 60k out of and I'm not easy on tires.
If you are talking about the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza, it is a GREAT tire. We put them on our 2004 Lexus RX330, they replaced Michelin's, and couldn't be more pleased.
Your point? If I lived in either of those states, I suspect tire would be more affected by heat and would need to be replaced sooner. At least that is what i have read.

The 5 year old tires I replaced had to go due to cracks and checks along the side walls and tread. They still had some tread life left. The sun is brutal on tires in hot states, + the increased road surface temps.
Thanks for the responses. They arrived at the dealer today and he'll mount 'em and balance 'em (new valve stems, of course) tomorrow.
I would think that UVA/UVB light would have more long term effect on the sidewall in terms of cracking and dry rot, as opposed to heat wearing down the tread over time.
