Hello everyone,

Both Breeze and Tridon have the same type of hose clamp that apply constant tension and compensate for thermal expansion by having a belleville spring design. Breeze calls theirs Constant Tension while Tridon calls theirs Flex Gear.

Does anyone in here know any variation between the two like quality, country of manufacture etc.?

Reason I ask is because I can purchase the same type made by Tridon at a significantly lower price than Breeze.

There is a long, long thread on SubaruForester.org originated by an Australian FXT owner who felt strongly that poor Tridon clamps on his vehicle caused numerous problems that he addressed with Breeze clamps.

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f207/danoz-fix-fa20dit-turbo-clamps-318129/

I have a set of the Breeze clamps ready to go, haven't installed them yet...also haven't had the same issues that were reported, though.

Virtus_Probi,

Fully aware of that thread fellow XT owner!:D

The Tridon clamps that come from the factory are not the same type as the one I mentioned above. Search for Tridon Ideal Flex Gear. It is very similar to the Breeze Constant Tension Series and seems to be a better clamp than the factory clamps. The Breeze CT hose clamp is also different from the Breeze liner clamps mentioned in the Forester forum.

The clamps that I am interested in are both lined with metal band to protect the plastic/rubber hose from the band perforation for the worm gear with the addition of the belleville spring while the Breeze clamp in the linked thread is only lined.

How did I not notice that FXT in your sig, my brother onemig??
;^)
Excellent info on the different clamp types, very useful to me and thanks for sharing it.
Good luck finding your clamp info and with your FXT in general! Just out of warranty on mine, keeping my fingers crossed.

Neither, I prefer German Norma/Gema clamps(Amazon sells them as Precision Brand metric smooth-band clamps) or the OEM spring ones. The German ones have rounded edges to lessen the chance of cutting into hoses.

But seriously - they'll both work the same - Breeze and Tridon make millions, if not billions of hose clamps a year. The Breeze clamps seem to be the de facto choice on heavy-duty applications, I see them on the local buses when I peer into the engine bay of a downed bus. I'm thinking you'll be using these for the turbo to IC piping with silicone hoses?

If you go to West Marine, you can buy stainless steel hose clamps from Sweden and they are almost identical to the OEM clamps found on German cars.

nthach,

You are right, I will be using the clamps for the intercooler piping but with the OEM plastic/rubber pipes.

It is a known problem with the SJ Forester XT that the clamps loosen and allow for inconsistent boost pressure.

I haven't really noticed any problem since brand new until recently about 3 weeks ago at WOT (checked clamp tightness on all intake piping before), instead of hearing a consistent, flat whooshing sound from the turbo (it has a CVT trans. so RPMs are held consistently at WOT), I heard it fluctuating.

Instead of a consistent "WHOSSSHHHHH", it was more like "WHOSSSHHHsshhSSHHHHHssshhh". I have no idea how long I was gunning it though, maybe 5 seconds at the most. I have not been able to replicate it the following days though.

I'll check the brands mentioned in here. Thanks!!
