I was doing some research to update some SDS, and I see now that Break-Free CLP has 1 to 5% canola. It's not a huge amount, but I still would prefer it not to have any seed oil in there. What is it's purpose besides a cheap filler?

This is another case of what you don't know wont hurt you. Canola is hydrophobic. It will push the water off the metal surface and adhere to it helping to prevent rust.

I still have a partial can of the old Breakfree- I'm not convinced the current version is the same.

Works great on my semi-auto sporting clays gun magazine tube. I run it wet and the fouling wipes right off.

2 parts ATF, 1 part STP, 1 part Mobil1 in whatever weight you have. An old ANG armorer I used to shoot with recommended it to me. Best gun lube I’ve ever used.

Engine oil by itself is an amazing lube. It’s all I use and have for years since I left the Infantry.
With this mix you also get the clinginess of STP and the penetrating power of ATF. I agree that purely as a lubricant all any shooter ever needs are whatever drippings are left in the bottle after an oil change.
