I just did a brake job on a 2003 Altima and used Wager Thermo quiet. I did NOT use anti squealor put shims behind the pad. I have developed a squeal. What can I do to eliminate it. Should I use anti squeal compound??

Thermoquiets are sometimes textured (depends on application) on the back and don't recommend grease.

Did you replace the brake rotor(s)?

yes there were shims attached. I may try some anti sqeal. It s my sisters car. I just drove it and there was a slight squeal. It squeal twice in a 5 min drive with multiple stops. Hopefully it will go away as some miles get put on them. No I didnt change rotors.

I just put thermo quiets on my wifes 2004 G35X (Same brakes as your car I think) and with in a few days they started to squeal. I did not use any anti squeal because your not supposed to with the wagner thermo quiet pads. I am going to pull them off and put a heavy coat on them this weekend and see if that helps.

I would take the pads off clean them front and back with break clean and spray them with the Permatex blue spray for brake pads. Shims or not I spray my pads, and never had a squeal.

are the rotors new? if yes then try the anti-squeal stuff.

if the rotors are old make sure there is no rust around the inside and outside edges. a small light rust ridge around the edges can cause brake squealing with light brake pedal applications if it's comes into contact with the pads.

There are other ways to fix this, but go get a $5 bottle of the anti squeal brake sauce, and apply it to the back of the pads.
Don't let it dry first - apply it and put the pad on, and step on the brake to seat it, then do the other side. You don't want a cushion between the piston and brake pad back. You want a layer of sauce that absorbs vibrations.
