I was looking at brake check and they seem to have gotten away from giving selections to chose from. I have a 2500HD Duramax i need to put new brakes/rotors on and don’t feel like doing it myself. Any other store options that has premium semi metallic options?

Local trusted Indy shop? Dealership, mavis or meineke? we have a place nearby called Brakes-4-Less

Expect a shop to install Duralast, BrakeBest or Carquest pads, there isn’t a “premium” semi-met line unless you specify severe duty or “police” pads. The parts store will have a ceramic upgrade which I wouldn’t do if you tow.

NAPA used to sell a fleet severe duty pad, I have a set on my old F-450. They have gotten so hot they were practically on fire from sticking calipers, but it didn't hurt the pads at all! The Express 3500 in my sig will get Wagner SevereDuty pads and coated rotors in the spring.

There's also the Powerstop

Z36 Truck & Tow Brake Pads

Designed for heavy-duty performance, these carbon-fiber ceramic brake pads are ideal for trucks used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. They offer:

  • 17% higher friction coefficient than OEM pads
  • Reduced brake fade under high temperatures
  • Low dust and noise-free operation
  • Includes stainless-steel hardware and ceramic lubricant
Fits: 2012–2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD (and 3500 HD), as well as GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD models.

Find a good indy shop in your area and tell them you need a brake job and don't mind paying a bit more to top shelf parts. Let them chose from the offerings of their trusted brand from their trusted supplier who provides support for the product and leave them be. As soon as you start dictating to a shop what specific parts you want them to use, that's where the problems start. I can guarantee you that a shop has more experience with what works and what doesn't than any homegamer or group or homegamers (like this one) does.

If there's anything wrong after the fact....take it back and tell them to fix it. You can't do that if you spec the parts.

Just an FYI, your original pads are Ceramic, not Semi-Met.

If you have an earlier truck (Pre-2012 or so)....they should be that badass Akebono formula that lasts **** near forever, until they get a little crack across the friction puck and then start squeaking. After the copper limiting legislation came about, the formula changed and they weren't quite as good.

If you got a reasonable life out of the OEM brakes, I'd request that the shop go back with 8 digit part number GM pads, selected through OE cataloging using your VIN.
