I need some brand recommendations on brake rotors. For the pads I think I'll go with Hawk ceramic, but for rotors I'm not quite sure. Driving a 05 Chevy Colorado PU.

Why not try the Hawk brand rotors? Dont go cheap and risk the warping and other noise issues that occur.
Hawk is decent and also has a Green design as well?

When did they start manufacturing (OEM style, I know they make racing/'hat' style, 2 piece stuff) rotors??!!

Try Amazone.com, they have some good/average rotors for as low as $40/ea with free shipping. They have some brand name rotors such as Wagner, AC Delco, Centric Parts, Raybestos ...

I like good pads.
Homework will net you a good idea of what to use. Hawk HPS are good, but dirty . Their ceramics should be good in this respect.
And don't think brake dust is a minor issue.
Rotors?
You can get good cheap Chinese ones, or faulty expensive name brand ones.
There are no guaranties anymore.
I lean towards cheap Chinese ones.
At worst, even if they do go bad, you can get new ones from the warranty, or just buy new ones and still be ahead.
Remember, name brand rotors are not a sure thing.

I wasnt aware of that, i was looking for a drilled slotted set for my Nissan. I then came across the Hawks. I didnt know they werent for daily driving.

If I lived where they used no salt in the winter time, I would love to try any brand name CRYO rotors(frozen down to unbeleivably low temps). I think they may last me the life of the vehicle for the way I drive. But, I think most brand name rotors at an affordable price will warp in 2-3 years(this is my experience). Brembo and Centirc have thus far given me the longest service for normal replacement rotors over other brands that I have used(Raybestos, Bendix, Wagner, BeckArnley, WareEver, ProStop etc.)
I won't spend the money on Cryo type rotors due to the salt used here in the winter time. They will still pit and rust like anything else.

Wow. So you tried 8 brands in all? Across about 24 years of ownership. Hmmmm.....

But the brand is no protection as Mechtech said.

You MUST get the rotors trued up before installation. I have taken high quality name brand rotors right out of the box and they were unacceptable for runout.

I have cyro treated ZINC PLATED drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads. They are great. If you get zinc plated they will not rust.

I brake clean the WHOLE rotor on my own stuff.
Then I use Rustoleum on the inner vent fins .
I believe when these rust down the road, the rotor can get uneven from the pressure.
Not perfect, but better than it was.
Rustoleum on brakes? Surprising, but it is not burning or melting off. I do my brake drums too.

No, I have probably tried more than eight brands of rotors! That's just since the 1980's when brake rotors turned to garbage. Through the late 60's and all of the 70's brake rotors were different...Heavier, better made. Today, most of the rotors are throw away IMHO! But, there are better ones and the Brembo & Centric have worked better for me although I don't want to say that there the best for all applications because I wouldn't know! For me,(just me) it's been a little more money and alot better rotor(s)

Well, nice of you to think of me but, I don't want dirlled/slotted rotors and, their not made for alot of vehicles that I have owned nor, are they made for every application. These types of rotors are ususlly for vehicles with performance potential. Alot of vehicles that I drive/own have family potential in mind.

Hmmm! the only lifetime guarantee I have ever seen on brakes warrants against MFG defects(for life, how ever long that is). I have a NAPA near by, I'll have to go in sometime and ask for myself and get the real scoop on these. If so, I'll have to check the prices.
