Brake problems with 2007 Volvo V70

THIS JUST IN:
I'm adding this development to my two-day old thread.
I'll be brief.

I mistakenly bought ventilated rotors for this V70. They're ~1" thick.
The solid rotors on the car are ~1/2" thick.
Q: Can I use the ventilated rotors on my car? The answer depends on whether the caliper can go wide enough, I suppose.
The overall diameter of 288mm matches.
Anybody know?

STORY:
During a garage clean-out years ago, I was given all the new, unused parts a fellow had abandoned.
The receipts were there, and I used the credit plus some cash for parts for my own car. I never visually checked the parts I bought.
Call it an oversight as I'm not the 'careless type'.

The disc should not even fit in the caliper bracket.
Are your sure it's even a rear disc? Sounds like you got 285mm front disc or Volvo P3 2008-> vent. rear disc.

Here is a look at the parking brake in a P2 Volvo, from last month, when I did a rear wheel hub on the XC-90.

You seem well versed with P2s - are Volvo shoes the only ones that work on this platform?! The factory parking brake shoes on our 04 V70 grabbed very well, but were starting to delaminate so I replaced them to avoid what happened to OP. I used LPR 08260 that were made in Italy and ECE 90R rated so I thought they'd be fine, but they barely grab compared to the factory shoes. I tried adjusting the nut under the handbrake but all that did was make it harder to engage the parking brake.

I have tried other brands - and been very disappointed with their "grab". I only use Volvo brake shoes on the Volvos now.

Zoom in on my picture, and you'll see that they are Volvo shoes.

If you're not getting the "grab" that you think you should, ensure that the inside of the rotor where the shoes make contact is clean and rust-free, that the expanders move freely, and that the brake is adjusted properly. The expanders can get pretty rusty - so, if they don't move freely, get a new set.

I am not sure that is a rear disc - any chance you could upload some photos?

Got it.
Wagner pn BD126191E
It fits various Subaru products.
The counterman was so helpful, it didn't ocurr to me that he'd either mess up or the wrong parts would be shipped.

Volvo p/n: 30793437 & -438 fits if you want extra adjustment.

Thanks for the input. I replaced the rotors with Zimmermanns at the same time and cleaned everything so I think the issue is isolated to the shoe pad material. What is it about Volvo parts where sometimes only genuine stuff work?

I noticed that XC90 shoes have a "relief" cut in the center of the pad material - possibly to allow for more overall contact?

I got the adjuster kit.
My long lasting Volvo brakes have just about half their life left in 'em.
That the p-brake decided to grenade with just a touch of application is something I'll never fathom.

A local mechanic told me they might have the option to remove all the broken junk and be done with it.
I asked if a parking brake was legally required and he said no.

Delaminating shoes seems somewhat common on this application - fortunately you don't have AWD as I've heard it can destroy the rear axles

^^^ yes, they really don’t wear since it’s a “hold” brake and not a “scrub” brake. They delaminate over time before wearing out. I caught mine in various stages of destruction. FCP Euro FTW!
