Brake pads from RockAuto

So far I've had good luck with buying brake pads and rotors from Rock Auto. I stick with Motorcraft for my F-150 and Contour. But I get Ford OEM, the factory grade brake parts, for my wife's 2005 Explorer, she brakes harder

What I've learned is greater chance of messing things up with drilled than slotted. drilled provides venting AND cooling. overcooling can be counterproductive, and drilling is prone to cracking. slotting only provides pad venting.

I certainly would not put drilled rotors on a commuter vehicle. But slotted? I see no harm since it doesn't change the cooling and doesn't interfere with structure like drilling does.

A nice read. Thank you. My experience was similar to Roob's. It's certainly been a good enough experience that I will likely repeat on my tundra. It sees heavy towing and is certain not endowed with oversize brakes.

So true, IMO many vehicles come with marginal brakes.

Of note is my new client's brand new BMW. The front rotors must be 15 inches across, but nary a slot, dimple, or drilled hole in sight. Yet the car is known for outstanding braking. Same with new Jaguars I have seen.

Rotor 'features' are almost always to deal with a pad and its particular characteristics. Be careful you don't focus on the rotors when perhaps it's the pads you should consider.
