Brake noise issue, and Ford dealer blowing smoke?

I have a 2013 F-150 4x4, the FX4 model. It has 4 wheel discs.

It has about 2100 miles on it so far and last week out of the blue started making a noticeable 'grunt grunt' noise from what seems to be the front brakes just before I come to a stop. When I say that, perhaps the last 2-3 revolutions of the wheel.

Ford dealer says 'normal, they all do that sometimes'. No further work or examination needed.

I don't think I buy that as I've had 2 others an 09 and 11 and they were both silent as a mouse when it came to the brakes.

Any thoughts from someone who knows more than I might and more than the Ford dealer wants me to believe?

Raybestos Low-Freq Damper

It lists 04-11 F150s as an issue. Maybe 13's hould have been fixed already?

Looks like that is for the rears? Seems like mine is the front. Might try another dealer too. Common response from any dealer 'normal' or 'nothing odd found'.

yeah.

There may be some truth to it. My 10 Taurus did it at about 10k. There was a TSB on it and the dealer replaced the pads, rotors, and some brackets as per the TSB. Lasted until 40k or so. It does it occasionally, seems to be more prevalent when it's wet or very humid. Pads have good meat on them and the rotors are fine.

I'd press it a little as from what I remember it was a common issue on early 2009/2010 Flex/Taurus/MKS and took Ford a couple months to reengineer the brackets.

in 1984 gm had a mushroom shaped piece you bolted on under the car to combat 40 mph shake when the transmission shifted into high. it was given away by the dealers as a TSB

I

wow. wasn't aware that NVH was such a problem, needing dampers like this.

The TSB for that has updated front pads, rotors, and caliper brackets. They are OE fit on the new release models.

OP, I would keep going back and raise all heck until the problem is fixed. The loud customers get the complaints fixed faster just to make them go away.

I'm going by tomorrow to get a service writer to go for a little ride so he can hear it. That TSB you mentioned is not specifically for the F150 but the Taurus and Flex/MKS?

I had a car that did the same thing. I pulled the brakes apart and used some anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads. Noise was gone after the treatment.

Sorry a little late, but that one is for the Flex and Taurus that I know of. The F150's have had issues with the brakes mostly people riding them and then overheating. A lot of people are convinced the rotors are too small for the vehicle, not saying that is true or false, just what I have heard.
