Brake Lube Necessary?

I put the tiniest amount I can with a small wooden stick (skewer skick). The edges of the ears need the lube rather than the ends of the ears. I use the Permatex purple for that area. The brush in the Permatex container will apply way too much.

Thank you JHZR2 for that link. Sorry to bring up a topic well covered in that conversation

Nah, I think he means the weirdos and stalkers mostly along with the basement-dwelling, auto-repair, self-declared experts.

Mainly the people that call his shop from all over the country looking for free advice. And he's right. He's got to put food on the table for his family, answering the phone for people that will never be within 100's of miles of his shop is just wasted time and effort. Sounds grumpy, but I've been in that same boat with people that would come by the shop, waste all your time asking questions, then buy something online, call again for help, and then never spend a dime with you.

One of my favorite car guys on Youtube is John Twist(University Motors).

He sold his shop and retired about two years ago, but when he was still operating he had a daily "tech hour"(around lunch time) where he welcomed calls asking for repair advice. I called him a few times and always respected his tech hour times. I've heard from others that he could get a bit snippy if called outside those times, would refuse to answer, and say to call back at the designated time or to email him. I always thought that was a perfectly reasonable response on his part.

It's worth mentioning too that John started doing daily tech hours during the pre-internet days where he was known more for his articles in MG Driver and other places than for Youtube videos.

Also, since he retired, things are a bit different and he's happy to take a call at any reasonable hour provided he's not otherwise occupied. I called him last week with a specific question, and ended up spending an hour catching up(at his prompting/encouragement) since I hadn't talked to him in a while before he said "Oh, sorry, I have an appointment to get to-did you call with a quick question or can I call you back?"
