Brake Job on Maxima

I can get OE blanks and pads cheap. However, for a few bucks less, I can get slotted/drilled rotors and ceramic pads. I know I won't see any benefit to running these ebay rotors, but am intrigued none the less. I have 95% highway/country roads and barely touch the brakes in the 25 miles that separate my home and work. The pads have about 30% life left, but the current rotors are scored and overall looking kind of rough. Anyone have any experience with these type of rotors? Last thing I need is to have them crack after break in...

Any and all opinions welcome.

Rotors are cheap.. just replace them together with brake pads. I assume NAPA's premium rotors cost about $45 each for your car, which is fair enough. I don't see a reason to pay more for OEM rotors.

I have ceramic pads on most of what we drive, they have worked very well. I think that a step up may be the Hawk HPS pads, I see lots of good comments about those.
I've also used the NAPA rotors, but not their Chinese made economy line, they have another US/Canada made series. The last ones I got had Made in Canada on the box.

IMO slotted/drilled rotors are not needed for daily commuter driving, and I would suggest seeing if your current rotors can be turned before springing for a new set. I just had a set turned for $12/rotor, a bit pricey but still less than another set.

I suspect that the OEM pads may be semi-metallic, which can tend to groove the rotors a bit over time, but if the OEM has served you well, there's nothing wrong with continuing to use OEM parts.

Be sure to flush the brake system as well, it collects moisture and debris from hoses/seals through the years. I prefer to rebuild rather than replace calipers, you would be surprised at the gunk that collects inside the calipers.

I would just get a new set of OE pads. I have been impressed with the OE Nissan pads on my mother's 2010 Altima V6, as well as on the Maximas I have driven. They appear to deliver fantastic performance with low noise and little dust. No reason to switch, IMO.
