Brake fluid destroying brake shoes and drum??

Yours may indeed be. I can say that of all the leaking wheel cylinder jobs I've done, none had the brake shoes eroded away- though I can kind of see what you're saying- they may come debonded and get eaten up that way.

I stand by what I said earlier though. 6 months isn't enough to cause the brake lining do any more than get seriously grabby- and yes, as soon as fluid gets worked into them, they're junk.
