Need a hammer. Wanted a leather handled estwing or vaughn, made in USA. HD had a lot of us made hammers, but not any of the leather handle ones.

Went to Lowe's, they had one dusty Vaughn, looked like it was a remnant. Everything, bostich.

So back to HD I go... Boycotting Lowe's for carrying ever-fewer us products. They will also be hearing from me...

Add Best Buy to that list. I hope they go out of business down here.
When my mac was 15 days old, the HD went. BB wanted $246 just to send it off. I could not get in touch with a district or regional manager. Their customer service is very bad here. I put in a complant to the better business burea and then was called by the manager of the store and he said " WHAT DO YOU WANT?" Told him I just wanted my 2 week old $1350 computer fixed. he laughed and hung up on me.

I personally wanted to try the new dewalt super light framing one until i saw the price. I use an estwing every day. Lowes has really turned their act around here.

Any letter you write will be filed in the trash can.

Welcome to globalism!

OTOH, many Craftsman products sold at Sears are made right here in Colorado Springs at Western Forge company; you might try Sears if you want to buy American.

Man, please tell me you're exagerating! I can't believe that it's so ridiculous. Are you out in the sticks? Here, if you don't like one BB, another isn't more than 20-25 minutes away.

OT, but I was just reading a story from a computer reviewer who had a hf go bad on his MBA after 2 months. Went to the Apple store and came out with a brand new one.

Dr should try to get to an apple store vs dealing with the geeks.

Lowes just closed a two year old store here, Hagar's Dustbin ran 'em into the ground. Too bad, they did have a good supply of metric stainless.

My pretty...

Have another like it but misplaced it a while back. Projects must go on, so I'm glad to support American industry today.

And not so far away from you, two other stores in the Manchester, NH area (both also less than two years old) closed recently. Looks like the skills of the Lowe's corporate management team could be a little suspect. Sounds like $$$$ down the drain if you ask me.

I'm with JHZR2 on this one. It maybe true on the letter part, but I look at it as I will complain with my wallet. I have always liked most Craftsman tools, but I will not buy ones that are made in China or Taiwan (even with the family employee discount).
I have recently bought a few of the "older" Craftman ratchets and such on ebay. I'm stocking up - because most of the stuff currently on Sear's shelf is not the same quality as the old "made in USA" items.

IMHO North American market is pretty much consumer-driven: the bulk of consumers demand low-end, low-priced hammer made in China, thus Lowes and other big box shop will load up those Chinese made hammers, less (or none) of those high-end domestic made ones.

In other words: they only sell those high-volume ones, not the ones that have very low/slow turnovers.

yes JHZR2, you and others (incl. yours-truly) would like to get our hands on some quality made USA ones but our voice is weaker than the general public...

Near me, Lowe's has closed several stores and flat out admit that they were built expecting the then-ongoing housing boom to drive sales at those stores.

Here's the funny part, 2 of the stores, Oswego and Aurora closed the same Sunday night, and since then I've received 2 post cards with note to reassure me that Lowe's is still in the area to serve me and giving me a $10 off $50 purchase coupon with a list of the still-open stores -- with the Aurora store that was closed listed as being one of the remaining stores open to serve me.

All the lowes by us get good business, though the HS seems to get more of the contractor traffic. Lowes gets more women and yuppies too good to go to HD.

I avoid my lowes too. Mostly because the employees are more interested socializing with themselves than doing anything else.

Lowes has never had a lot of folks that know much.

HD has a lot of quota hires that know nothing. But they do have knowledgable folks sometimes in some areas like plumbing, lumber/trim and electrical.
