The "problem" is when an engine needs more than 5 quarts and you need to purchase an extra single quart or two (usually at a crazy price). I've had a couple engines like this and it's why I started purchasing oil in 5 gallon pails.
-What about our non-US friends? I'm sure they would prefer to have some whole number of liters instead of quarts.
