Found a 5 qt container of 5-30 for my Mazda 3.....got it at Wal-Mart for $11.33. Was going to get some MC, but after hearing so many good things about Valvoline and MaxLife, I figured, what the heck! Anxious to try it after one more short OCI with QS Dino.

Is your Mazda 3 new?

BTW, congrats on the Mazda 3! I have an '88 323 - still has plenty of pep, still gets 38.5 mpg HW. Got a nice glasspack on it (but not teenage loud). It's my wkend around town Rally car.

I averaged 22.5mpg in a heavy suv climbing over 5 Colorado mountain passes, ranging from 9,993 - 11,312 feet this past Saturday - guess what oil was in the truck.....come on...

Maxlife 5w30 synthetic...this is the BEST mpg I have gotten in this 5,000# truck doing this much mountain driving at rpm's of 3-4,500 for over 4-5hrs on a 93F degree day.

I wish my local Pep Boys would carry full synthetic Maxlife!!! They only carry the blend version. In either case my guess is that any full synthetic will give you the mileage your quoted. I'm a M1 man myself or get Valvoline as a back-up.

Some folks here feel that using high mileage oils in new vehicles puts too much stress on the seals - should you attempt to use it for the lifetime of the vehicle.

Personally -- I won't use high mileage oils unless I find engine issues that need to be addressed.

thats just it who really knows if that rumor about the seals is true.. i havent seen pics or anything so its just hear-say.. use that maxlife with confidence. it has good additives and the regular maxlife is 30% syn or so.. not too shabby

Valvoline says it is just fine to use this in a new car...no problems at all!!

Can you provide a link or a blurb?

Here's the closest thing I could find under Valvoline's FAQs:

Quote:

Are there advantages to using this oil in a car with less than 75,000 miles?
Yes. MaxLife will not harm a car with less than 75,000 miles and will begin the preventative stages to help preserve the life of your vehicle's engine.

--now what part of that says that its not safe to use on cars under 75k miles hahahaha... jeesh

Easy for them to say that - since a vast majority of new vehicles find a 2nd leaser/owner by 100K. The question mark isn't the first 100K -- it's all the miles beyond & the toll seal conditioners do to seals over the years.

We really need some high mileage poster evidence - one that has accumulated 200+K on only high mileage oils.
