I just bought a 1988 300zx. 3.0 litre V6 with 96K miles and 5 speed. Runs strong and doesn't seem to leak any oil (kinda early to tell). I plan on running the AutoRx treament and using Techron in addition to changing the air, oil and fuel filters. Any other suggestions?

I don't have anything to add other than the fact that my mom owned a 1988 300ZX 5 speed, she bought it brand new and had it until Nov 93, when she bought her Probe GT (which she still has)
Don't try and change the oil filter on that 300ZX until the engine has cooled right down! You'll burn yourself big time on the exhaust!

Change the timing belt and accessory belts.
Make sure all recalls are completed.
Flush the antifreeze and thermostat.
Don't forget to change the rearend and transmission oils.
The VG30 is an excellent long lasting engine with proper maintenance. Its big brother is still being used today(VG33 XterraFrontier).
I miss my '88 Maxima. The body rotted out on it. But, the 3.0 V6 ran like a clock with 200k miles on the motor.

1988 had a very important fuel injector recall. Make sure its been done, If it hasn't you will get brand new fuel injectors installed free from nissan. Faulty injectors were known to cause an engine fire. My buddy had an 88 had the digital dash which certainly was different, good car they run forever. At the time he had it I had an 88 non turbo supra, the z seemed to handle better but the supra was out front in a straight line race.

I'd just add: be sure to use the correct type of fluids in the trans & rear, maybe get a decent workshop manual for it, & IMO, leave it stock.

hey cool another Z member...i have a 1986 300zx.
do all they told u....fluids and all...im running auto rx through mine right now. clean the pcv valve..those get clogged, fuel filter is waiting too haha. good luck...its a great car
