Still a hefty profit increase for a new name and new bottle.

If they can keep the price around 2$ a qt. it should still be an excellent buy. That hinges on the hope that they didn't skimp on all the additives that were in the old Havoline.
There is a chance that this oil could be the sleeper oil even more so than the older Havoline. I guess we will have to wait and see what it is capable of as far as intervals and wear #s. Let's hope for the best and not be shocked by the worst.

What's gonna' happen to our enguns' if we concoct a potion of 16oz clinging molecules with 16oz deposit shielders????

Too bad Chevron felt they had to add marketing hype to their good product. I guess in the wider world the hype works, after all they do have castro_ to compete with.

If Chevron ever markets an oil additive like VSOT then we'll really have to flush them down the toilet!

All in good humor.

Pure humor is often the beacon of truth.

Looks like i'll start buying more trop artic then... Hard to beat a Conoco-Phillips synthetic blend for $1.68

actually, the $2.29/qt for havoline deposit shield was the cheapest oil they had at autozone besides coastal and valucraft.

Havoline "Deposit Shield" is just a marketing ploy to seperate the Havoline from the Chevron by bumping Havoline upscale to compete with Castrol GTX. Formula Shell at 1.53 seems the bargain around here.

Sure is alot of negativity surrounding this launch of the new Havoline formulation.

Since we have zero info to go on as far as the specifics of the formulation, I think it's a little early in the game to slap on the "marketing ploy" label.

Let's wait & see what the Bitog initiated VOA shows, moly levels, if nothing else, and see if it provides any clues as to whether "Deposit Shield" is new additive technology or a marketing exercise.

- And my money is on new technology!

Is their any visual clue as to a formula change like becoming lighter or darker in color. Just curious.

Can't wait for the first VOA.

Exactly. Suppose the new Havoline has the ability to perform as well as 3-4$ a qt. oils. I'm willing to bet nobody will mind DepositShield being on the label then.
They have given a great product for the price for a long time and there is the very real possibility that DepositShield will do what they claim it does.
I wonder how many times Lube Control products have been lumped in with other products that really don't work. People like Terry Dyson says it does have benificial properties so lets give Havoline the benifit of the doubt. If it turns out to be just hype, there will be plenty of time to slam them for it.

Blue99 and Mokanic: I should say, rather, that the "Maxi Shield" or whatever smacks of product positioning. It may truely be an improved product but I won't be able to buy it for 93 cents a quart anymore. Sour grapes on my part I suppose.

Similar? Current Chevron Supreme product data sheets read identically with those of the former Havoline product data sheets. You got some great motor oil at a fantastic price - use it and be happy (your engine sure will...). As to the new brew, give the new Havoline brew six months at retail and then download the latest Chevron Supreme product data sheet to compare. I suspect Chevron Supreme will follow suit at some point - probably sooner rather than later, too. I'm not among those who believe "Deposit Shield" is mere marketing hype - although I believe Chevron is milking their new additive technology for maximum sales draw. (Why shouldn't they?) My gut feeling is that we're seeing some of the technology today in these mid-life SM cycle motor oils that will eventually be standard across the board in SN oils a few more years from now. Think SM and a half.

Well, Ken E, I can understand how Havoline users that were buying due to $ value might be disappointed, as the present GF-4/SM formulation is at or near the top of the class, performance wise.

But I keep pushing the point that the 5 oil changes I do every year cost me less than $100 and I'm willing to pay a few dollars more for a better product.

If Deposit Shield performs as described, then the gap between syn & conventional oils becomes even smaller.
