Bought a used truck…

My kid has a 97. It is a good truck, but...I had to do the distributor and spider injection recently. Yours will serve you well.

I still don't understand the unconditional love for the GMT400 and I am a GM guy. I have had 3 of them now an 88 3/4 ton, and 89 1 ton 454 TH400 and my kids 1997 Z71 and while they last a long time they also require more work than either of my GMT800s ever did. The 17 remains to be seen but so far it the best truck I have ever owned, especially for towing.

I just think people forget about TBI stuff, pretty reliable, but no power. Injectors and all types of gaskets were common on my 88 and 89.
The kids 97 has had one 4L60E during it life's already. We just rebuilt the front end, valve cover gaskets, distributor, intake gasket, CPS and valve cover gaskets. I know some of that stuff has already been done once. The good old days were not always good.

If you get the RPO codes out the glove compartment, it should tell you what gears it has. My kid's has 3.73s.
GT4 is 3.73 GU6 is 3.42.

With the temp gauge now working found out the engine is running cold. I drained the cooling system ( straight water!) and pulled the thermostat neck to find it had no thermostat at all! The neck had silicone sealer as a gasket! Figured out how that came to be, there some pitting on the sealing surface and it probably leaked. Took a triangle file to it and trued the sealing surface up, then put in a 195 t’stat. Filled it with Prestone all vehicle antifreeze and a new radiator cap. She makes hot water now.

The Suburban I just got from AZ did not have any heat either. I found the thermostat stuck open. I am hopeful it was not like that for the last 10 years or whatever - seems like it could cause some varnish/sludge issues.

It was the first truck with a car-like ride and interior. The Fords of that era were still based on a 1981 truck, the Dodge truck went all the back to the early 70s. These trucks were EVERYWHERE where I grew up and they are what started the pickup as a car replacement trend that we have now.

We were just in Sierra Vista 2 weeks ago visiting friends, didn't make it to Bisbee. We've been told it's a lot like Jerome, all touristy and crowded so didn't drive over. Interesting country down that way.

Your truck could habla Espanol being where you are but I still think it looks too good. Braver than me buying a truck with a quarter million on the clock.
 
Nice score. That is my favorite body style of the newer generations of Chevy trucks. I still own two of them. Once since new.
