I get 25mpg on the highway with my Jeep. Now that I have taller tires, the top gear RPM is 200rpm lower, thus increasing my gas mileage.

Drew, when I drove my friend's 03 Corolla S, I was suprised at the amount of power it had and how sporty it was. I was going about 60mph (without knowing... it was oooo quiet) and putting it through some hard handling manuvers. Despite the junky Bridgestone Insignia SE200 tires, it still gripped the road quite well.

Well, sporty and Corolla are mutually exclusive concepts to me! It's been my experience that they handle like a Greyhound, accelerate like a Greyhound and pick up chicks like a Greyhound. But when I'm in the middle of BFE, I want the sucker to keep running! 40 mpg doesn't hurt either.

After driving the new one with an auto and my 94 with a 5 speed manual, my 94 would rip the 02 a new one in a drag race. I can hit about 45-50 up the steep hill I live on in the 94 but the 02 struggles to hit 40. I'm sure a newer one with a 5 speed would be marginally quick. But I've owned a mid 13 second car in my life so an 18 second Corolla compared to a 17 second Corolla isn't much!
