bought a 1999 Suburban 1500

Made some progress.....

*Mahle rubber over steel intake gaskets
*Cleaned & painted some valve covers.....Reused the gaskets that came with the engine.
*The Distributor was cracked form someone overtightening the cap, Got a Aluminum one from AutoZone.....Swapped the Cam Sensor for the GM one, Installed new Delco Cap & Rotor.
*Delco water pump
*Cleaned the fuel injection spider & installed a new fuel pressure regulator.
*GM thermostat & Housing, The housings on these are usually pitted/rotted so for for $20 it's a no-brainer.

Was the heater hose quick-disconnect already switched over to the standard hose fitting or did you do that?

When I pulled the intake to do the gaskets and replace the injection assembly, I cleaned and reused the OE disconnect piece. This was almost 20 years ago now and before I had learned all the horror stories of that thing snapping.

Knock on wood it’s still holding up nice and dry to this day.

This one wasn't leaking either, But didn't want to come apart so I just cut the hose off. It broke into pieces trying to remove it.
Had to chisel it one one piece at a time. It did clean-up pretty good with a 1/2" pipe tap.

I rarely work on these anymore, Kinda enjoyable because these, LT1 & Northstar's are about all I worked on when I first started in Cadillac dealerships.

Using a Corvette LT1 gear reduction starter.....Have to use the smaller 153 tooth flexplate. The original 168 tooth was beat up pretty bad & had some cheap Amazon looking starter. With the engine being locked up I bet the starter got real hot when they tried restarting it.

I remember this tool kit being a lifesaver back in the day when people would snap it off trying to remove.

After getting it out one way or the other, most converted to a standard hose fitting like you did.

I grew up with a lot of 90’s GM vehicles so they always have a charm to me.

I had a black and silver Yukon like that. Loved that truck. If I were to come across a clean one Like that I'd probably be inclined to LS swap it. I know I say that about everything.

Got the manifolds, Plugs, & Plug wires installed.
*NGK IX Iridium plugs
*NGK Plug wires.....They fit pretty good & seem better quality than what Delco is selling these days.

Tested the LT1 Corvette starter (Nippon-Denso gear reduction) as it's been setting in my conex for a few years, Mocked it up on the block & it sits flush......The casting of the starter pad varies on small block chevies!

Cleaned the ICM heat sink really good & applied Artic Silver 5 thermal compound to both sides.

The Crank Sensor connector had seen better days, So I soldered on a good used pigtail...Need to tape the harness back up.

Had to run to WIT (Transmission parts) & Summit Racing to get parts to build the 4L60E, That's another $900 & still need fluid & torque converter.

Grabbed a new Delco 140amp Alternator $138 at Summit.

4L60E tore down & Inspected......

*2nd Cutch checkball stuck in the separator plate.....Causes slow band release.
*Reaction Sun Shell nearly stripped out, This is what would've taken the unit out!!

Vacuum tested the Valve Body & Pump Cover (Regulator Valve).....Slight wear to the Converter Clutch Regulator valve, It's getting a TransGo regulator valve anyway. Impressed there's so little wear for 200,000!

Band had been hot, Caused by the stuck checkball.
3/4 clutch is in surprisingly good shape.
Forward clutch has seen some heat, Updated "Waffle" frictions will fix that

Tapped & plugged the 4th Accumulator Feed in the case.

Case, Bellhousing & Extension Housing ran through the spray cabinet.

Glad I tore it down now instead of having my wife limping this thing back home in 3rd gear from Austin or El Paso, (You lose 2nd, 4th & Reverse when the Sun Shell can't hold the rear Sun Gear)

Progress on the 4L60E.....

The output carrier had a couple loose pinion gears, Had a good used one.

Using a Sonnax heavy duty reaction shaft to rollerize it against the sun shell.
Sonnax Smart Shell
Sonnax .490" Boost Valve
Corvette Servo with TransGo cushion springs, And a long Sonnax apply pin, Set band clearance at .040"
Seven Borg Warner 3/4 friction opposed to six.
Dura Bond 1 piece coated bushings.
Endplay set at .006"

Still have the Valve Body, Separator Plate & 2nd Accumulator to do.
