Just used my Discover Card rewards and picked up a new set of Bose AE2 head phones.

They sound really good. I would definitely recommend them for anyone looking to buy a new set of phones. I have had phones from Sony and Sennheiser in the past, but due to bad Labrador, I was using the included apple earbuds for a while.

And as much of an Apple fanboy I am, I can't get over how painfully bad Apple's ear buds are. . .

Any who, the Bose are very nice. They are the most comfortable set I have ever put on. And unlike the hip "Beats" head phones, Bose actually has a balanced, clear, sound. Not over the top with bass just for the heck of it.

Sennheiser will sell you about any part you need to fix their products. Just Google them. Up here not far from Boseville (Natick Mass.) we call them "The Bose Illusion".

I am no fan of Sony as a whole, but I think one of my favorite things they make are studio level headphones. Always happy with my Sony headphones.

Glad you like your new phones.. I would never spend a dime with Blose myself.

And neither would I really. I always stuck with Sennheiser as my go to brand. But I went to best buy and really spent a while listening to all the headphones out on display.

But I kept picking up the Bose after every other set I tried. They do have a level of clarity to me that was not had on the other 20+ sample phones.

Since I had the cash back on my card to cover the cost, I said what the heck and grabbed them.

Headphones is probably one of the very few products that Bose makes rather well. Their home theater audio gear on the other hand...

I have a set made by Shure, and like them a lot. Im sure the bose ones are similar, and can imagine that they sound really great.

I have Bose headphones that I got for free. They are more than serviceable, but I'd probably go to Sennheiser, Grado, or even Koss if I had to buy some today.

+1 I have a pair at work that I listen through most of the day.

Sennheiser is my fav. $129 from Guitar Center, one side audio cable. VERY nice.

I also like Munitio MW3 billet headphones for everyday listening.

I had a pair of Bose in-ear buds and they sucked. I tried their cups before and didn't really like them either. Felt cheaply made too.

I'll take my HD-25s and SR-60s any day.

Glad you like them. I have a pair I carry when flying, and the noise cancellation feature is fantastic in a noisy environment.

And to the standard bearers for the "Bose Hate Club": Sound quality is so subjective that you might want to hear the setup first before condemning it. What one person thinks is awesome may sound like total garbage to another one.

I have more than one Bose setup and they are amazing in person. I am wondering how any audiophile could not love them. Simple, no bulky equipment, and outstanding sound.

just FYI I formed my opinion of Bose only after hearing certain Bose speakers, HT systems, headphones, etc at various points of time and comparing them to others in similar price/class range. (most of them when Bose was probably at their best in the early-mid 90's)

Nothing wrong with your opinion. I have the same basically. I was just able to plug my iPod in to all the display models and play some 320Kbps Elton John and lossless Billy Joel and the Bose hands down had the best clarity for me and sounded the best. The sennheisers (all priced from 80-150) seemed somewhat flat compared to the Bose. The Beats focused on bass and nothing else. The mids and highs were just drowned out. There were a few other brands their as well.

But I agree with the general consensus. Bose is, for the most part, over priced for what you get.

But these AE2s just fit the bill for me.

nothing wrong with liking Bose either - i have learned over the yrs how subjective sound quality is, just like a 'good looking car' etc...

The Bose sounds 'fuller' probably due to accentuated highs and lows and recessed mids...in other words 'smiley face eq' sound.
When you're used to that sound it's hard to train your years to more natural sound (flat/balanced eq) which sounds...'flat' and not 'bright' and 'exciting' (which pretty much always accompanies ear fatigue over long periods, IMO) ... it takes YEARS to see/hear subtle things which an amp or HP with non-recessed mid range can deliver...

but this is all dependant on how much one is picky...how much of a 'natural'/neutral sound one can admire...

I am not a Bose fanboy in any way. However, the new Bose Quiet Comfort 15 headsets are excellent when converted for aviation use. Come to find out, they are also superb at reproducing music!

I have a number of high end headsets for audio use. The QC15's are better than any of them. Better even than my highly regarded Sony's.

Yes, the QCs are amazing! After listening to both the QCs and the AE2s I decided to go with the AE2s since the actual sound quality was equal. Just no noise canceling. The AE2s definitely isolate you and provide a nice level of area noise reduction, but since I am going to be using these while out and about mostly, I did did not want to be so muted to the world around me! Lol. So I could just not justify buying them. But yea, flying would be the main reason to have them.

Very much agree, headphones very good. I was amazed at how underwhelmed with their $3-4K home theater system at one of their dog-n-pony demos.

Our 20yo 3 foot-high pair of CV's, combined with a a $100 pair of Yamaha bookshelf and a JVC sub on a $249 Yamaha receiver unit make for an amazing movie & concert DVD experience. The Bose didn't come close.

Back on topic, Bose headphones are really good. I want to listen to some 24bit/96K recordings on those if I ever get the opportunity.

I have some older Elton John and Billy Joel CDs from the 90s that are 100% perfect recordings that I have listened to on my Yamaha sound system and the headphones and it is amazing! Better than the polk shelf speakers and yamaha sub that its hooked up to.

Most of my music on my iPod and iPhone are 320kbps and it still sounds amazing.
