Bose is garbage. I build speaker and I have found the same drivers that bose uses in their surround sound system ( the little lifestyle stuff) for $3.00. They sell these in there little cheap boxes with their cheap subwoofer for over $1000. Nice marketing!

I wouldn't call Bose garbage. Grossly overpriced low end sound systems, but not garbage.

If Bose systems sold for 1/2 their price, they would be a reasonably priced mass market low end system.

Bose has a strong legal department. They will sue the **** out of you if you publish anything even remotely negative about them in comparison to other products, as a few prominent audio magazines have found out over the years. So, to avoid the hassle, most publications just don't review Bose products at all. They will gladly accept Bose's advertising dollars and publish Bose ads on their pages, but they will not review them.

Personally, I think some of the Bose headphone products aren't bad, just overpriced for what you get. But if it sounds good to you and you're happy with your purchase, that's all that matters. Happy listening.

Yes, really.
I only asked that question after being nagged to see if a material answer could be produced. It never was. There is no data available anywhere that says the Grado headphones have a flatter response or better price/performance ratio or even better build quality than the Bose (if you look, you'll see people have had trouble with the plastic on the ear covers - not very different from the problem I experienced.)

Again, thank you for encouraging me to look into the issue further and explore my options, but there is a right and a wrong way to do that. The wrong way is to say,

It's the most overpriced kkrapp ever!

The right way might sound more like, "Before you make that decision, take a look at some of the other options that have been better reviewed."

That sounds a lot better than saying, "You're an idiot."

Cheers, I'll see you in another thread.

I just hate to have a thread I started taken so far off topic.

Its his money and if he like Bose, better for him.

I use Polk Audio speakers in my car. I'm sure somebody thinks those suck, too.

And yes, some higher end cars have Bose sound systems. They sound good, too.

The Bose Waveradio for example sounds really great and is a really neat concept, until you realize that you can buy a Cambridge Soundworks radio for half the price, double the options and still have better sound quality.

My '00 E430 had Bose as standard audio but E320 of the same year had Bose as $1000 option.

The sound is okay, not so great. I spend less than $1000 on upgrading audio in '04 S2000 and it sounds much better than the Bose system in E430, when comparing the same music with both engine off in garage.

My 1993 Accord SE Coupe has a partially defunct Bose stereo. Not impressed as it crackles badly, but was prolly good in its day.

You have been using internet for years and you don't know about not starting a topic on Bose? I don't buy that!

Bose can and will build what the car manufacturer specs and is willing to pay for. I've had factory Bose systems in 2 Corvettes and 2 Acuras. Both Corvette systems sounded terrible. The Acura systems were good but nothing outstanding.

Rejoice.

I just called to cancel my order for the replacement set of tri-ports. Now I just have to find the right headphone for me. For less than $70.

I'm really thinking about these Sony V6's, but I'm not sure yet.

You might be able to score a used pair of Sennheiser HD 280's or even AKG 240 or 240DF's for that kind of money, both of which are *terrific* headphones. The Sennheisers are "closed ear", meaning they'll give you better isolation from the outside (I use them in my recording studio for tracking vocals, as they bleed less into the mic) but the low end, because your ear canal itself becomes part of the "resonant chamber", may kick a little too much tail. The AKG's are more accurate and musical as far as I am concerned, but they're open ear and sport a 600ohm impedance, meaning you've got to have one heckuva amp to drive them to normal listening levels.

Thanks for the tips. From what I've read a closed design would suit me best despite the shortcomings to which that design is prone. And while needing an amp isn't a big deal most of the time, it would present problems occasionally, so something that could be powered by an MP3 player would be best.

My '93 Accord EX-R had a factory radio that was made by Alpine. Loved it
