Apparently, copper is a better choice to get a strong spark, so i put in champion copper plus, the small 1.6L run so much better, response better too. It would make sense that switching from copper to platinum or iridium at the same gap and heat range could be problematic in a borderline application. The coppers should have a slightly lower internal resistance. If you still have the iridium or platinum plugs, don't throw them out. Save them for when your coppers wear out and give them a second try with a closer gap. They may work just fine that way and save you the cost of a new set of coppers.
