Has anyone taken apart or closely looked at a Bosch Distance Plus bypass valve - maybe for the D3500? Is it the same as the Premium Bosch filter? The Purolator Pure 1? Is it a 45 record adaptor like in some of the old oil filter pictures or have they upgraded it to something else? If so what is the mechanism ?

They are dome end bypass. While I haven't used them, based on what I've seen here, I would assume that are the same as the P1/BP. The 4 smallest size filters would use the flat spring design 45 adaptor bypass. The others and majority, would use a coil spring design bypass.
