Perhaps the problem is much more severe. You need to contact the repair service.
To anybody in the boating world out there it’s really a good idea to look at that cap and rotor every season , 2 at most. you’ll be amazed how much fur grows while they’re laid up. I just hit mine with a 1” stainless wire wheel on a Dremel as I do with scuzzy wire terminations. Many folks forget as the old points setups have long gone away mostly but it still works the same way. Electronic ignition is so powerful it’ll shoot right through it until the day it just can’t anymore. For me its always been first startup of the season.
Take a look at the face of the magnetic pickup too while you’re in there. They don’t fuzz over but they do rust and when there’s enough , no fire..
