Hi.

BMW E60 520i. 6HP19 Gearbox. 240K KM
When going to downhill, i shift to Manual mode, Then shift to 2nd Gear. I release the brake pedal. While engine braking, car shakes and Transmission Fault messajge appears. and Failsafe mode is activated. So that car will go only in 3th gear. Until restart the car.

1. This only happens at 2nd Gear. Not in First or Third or any others.
2. This does not happen only in manual mode. But rarely (a few times in year) in automatic mode, if i drive too agressively. (while pressing and releasing gas pedal too often)
3. In manual mode, as described above, the failsafe mode is always activated.

Error Code
1. 4F8F(EGS: Ratio monitoring, gearshift 3-2)
2. 4F92 EGS: Ratio Monitoring clutc A-C

I already had made some researches in other forums. I was told that possible causes could be that clutch pack is slipping, bad solenoids, mechatronics sensors. Unfortunately the mechanics in my country have very little skils about automatic gearboxes. If they remove the gearbox, they will want to to replace almost everything inside. to make sure that they will fix the problem, even if the culprit was one inexpensive part

I want to know if someone had such problems with very similar symptoms ?
And does being able to replicate the issue in manual may help us narrow down the list of possible causes ?

When was the last time you changed the ATF?

The fluid should've been changed atleast once by now. I would change the fluid and see what happens. It's not like your can break it more than it's already broken.

I have changed ATF. Used Liqui Moly which meets Shell M-1375.4 spesification. Didn't helped unfortunately.

With the 6HP19 this is usually caused by the mechatronics solenoids as well as the sleeves being worn. There should be kits on FCP Euro's website for this, and there are a few youtube how-to videos showing how to change them out.

Ok well then get ready to invest in some new solenoids. I know you said that in your country the shops don't have a lot of experience in transmission work but it looks like some internal work is required in your case. If it makes you feel any better in the U.S. there isn't a whole lot of experience re-building newer transmissions either.

Maybe contact ZF in Turkey? https://www.zf.com/mobile/en/compan...wide/europe/turkey_locations/turkey.html

On a side not the ZF 6HP has a re-learn procedure when the ATF has been serviced. I don't know how long ago you changed the fluid but here it is. https://blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-reset-relearn-e90-bmw-automatic-transmission-adaptations-zf6

Good Luck !
