Greetings, new poster here. Attached is a oil analysis from our recently purchased 230i. Oil was changed at the dealer by the PO at ~ 7300 miles (initial change, yecch) prior to our purchase at ~ 9200 mi. I just changed it at 10000 mi, and will change at 2500 minutes intervals, using Motul 8100 Eco-Clean as it's approved for BMW LL 17 FE+.

I believe the manual allows the use of ll-01fe so if you're already buying motul you might as well buy their 0w-30.

I have the same engine in my 3 series and have been changing oil around every 4,000 miles. I would go a little longer, but the MM goes off at a year interval. In favor of short OCI's, but don't even bat an eyelash at the 7,300 interval for the first change. The "LL" in your oil stands for long life, and assuredly, folks are getting twice that mileage or more out of a cycle. I have used the Liqui Moly 6600 product, and am about to try Ceratec for the first time in this car as change is due August. Best wishes with this overbuilt, understressed vehicle which will deliver many moons of great service if you stay on top of the maintenance. As someone who did a UOA at 9,000 miles, your head is in the right place.

Thanks guys. I'm an old Mopar guy so I'm learning my way around the BMW world. I'd be much happier with 0w30 given the turbo. At the rate we drive, 2500 mi is about a year, so that should work out. I'm going to run another analysis at the next change, so we'll see how that goes. Thanks again for the guidance.

This engine family is amazing, have two one with 127k miles and nothing but 10k mile changes at the dealer ( does not burn any oil) and second only has 16k miles. One of the best engines around.
