This. Don't even bother changing the filter, it's fine for the duration of the 14K mile change.

Dont drive the car as much. My dealer gives me an oil change once a year if I dont hit the OLM/life notification. Apparently this is standard protocol.

Otherwise, just DIY every so often. Just use a topsider and forget the filter, it will be fine for the interval.

I pull UOA by inserting a tube right down the oil fill hole. Takes me a few tries but it gets there...

Maybe its not the sump? Got to run the experiment...

Hmm... on my engine there is a baffle right under the oil fill cap, so I don't think I'd get very far, but then again, my old school engine has a dipstick tube, so I've never actually tried going through the oil fill hole.

A few how to sources confirm 7 quarts, which I admit is a huge amount for a small 2.0 litre powerplant.

Bavarian Autosport has a great maintenance schedule for most BMW/MINI cars and is more useful if you plan to keep your car for 200k miles. Just find the tech info page and find your car.

If not, do them yourself or have them done.
You paid a good buck for your car.

I would change it, use an OEM filter, and then tell nobody at the dealer that I changed the oil. To remain anonymous buy your filter from an independent parts dealer on eBay. That is how I changed the TC:SST fluid in my Mitsubishi.

It seems extremely unlikely that anybody would actually know what you did unless maybe you used the wrong oil. You read BITOG, so you know exactly what oil matches OEM oil.

I don't like the idea of going over 10,000 miles in any car engine, even if I could be proven wrong.

My dealer gives me a free change once a year, regardless of what the olm says. In fact, I put few enough miles on that I'm not sure how to view the olm in my 135i. This is just sop, not anything I arranged, heck, I bought the car from another dealer and picked it up at the performance center.

I pull a used oil analysis with a used oil analysis pump. No different than any other topsider or liquivac, maybe the hose is a little smaller..

Just a nylon hose and a manual pump. I feed the hose down, takes a few tires to get it right. I pump the container full and then dump it a few times to make sure the tubing is cleared out of old oil and moisture, then pull the sample. Malays do it hot.

It works on the N55, I can see down in there, I can't see if its the sump or not...

Pay to have it changed at the dealer in-between or do it yourself. It's only $80 at the dealer for an oil change.

You probably spent after tax and interest at least $40,000 on your car, and you're worried about paying for oil changes?

I mean there's people here on BITOG with these kinds of cars, and even newer cars that will pay for one oil cause it's $3.00 cheaper for a jug. $3.00!?!?!? Trying to find logic here....

My 2012 328 gets the oil changed every May., Regardless of the mileage. It generally gets less than 10k miles a year although the first year I think I went over that but I didn't stress about it.
As it is our pleasure and trip car and we own it we are Keeping it long term. But it is just a car and it could be totaled next week for all I know so why stress?
