I have an '04 R1150RT motorcycle; I'd like to change the transmission and final drive oil. The manual recommends a 90 wt GL-5 rated gear oil for both, or a 80/90 wt. I'd like to put Mobil 1 gear oil in the bike, but the only ones available are the Mobil 1 75/140 LS (limited slip?). My questions are: should I use the 75/140 oil? If so, is the "LS" going to be a problem? Is this even recommended for a motorcycle? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
M1 SHC 75w-90 GL5 is excellent in this application - I would not use the heavier viscosity lubricant under any circumstance

Final drive and gearbox temps in these bikes are low even in a high ambient temperature

Castrol's Syntrax 75w-90 (or its equivalent in the US) is a perfect match

Ex RS owner - still miss it too!

Regards
Doug
