BMW E90 Mobil 1 0w40 How Long ?

10K miles shouldn't be a problem. You have a large sump.
....could go further....but to be safe 20km +/-.

In one of the recent US car magazines they stated that they changed the oil on their test BMW 5 series at 21,000 miles.As per the computer.
15k is the factory OCI I believe. I see no reason it can't go that long, especially with a very big sump.
7,500 for twin turbo(335i) & 10k miles or more (325/328/330).
I would do a used oil analysis @ 7.5k miles if you have the 335i just to make sure your TBN is adequate and don't have a lot of fuel dilution. Older 335i (N54) we hard on oil. I don't know about the newer offerings (N55).

I wonder if BMW has moved to a DI engine for their certification. IIRC the LL01/LL04 specs were run on the M54.

Mobil 1 0w40 has a relatively high TBN and can handle the fuel dilution out to 7500, in my opinion.

Terry sure didn't think so, and I'm not sure the TBN is the main factor here.
Different car, but I'm doing 7500 mile ocis on my turbo charged volvo S60 using M10W40. Two used oil analysis suggest that the oil has plenty of life at 7500. The only reason that I'm sticking to 7500 is that the car is covered under an extended warranty and 7500 is the Volvo recommended oci(Volvo specs semi-syn for my car). If your car is under warranty, I'd go with whatever BMW recommends. If not, I'd go 10K and do a used oil analysis. I'd be willing to bet that for the 0W40, 10K will be a breeze. If BMW has an olm, I'd go by that and maybe change at a little higher % than what they recommend.

This thread compared the cold pumping characteristics of Mobil 1 0W40 and GC and it seems clear that the Mobil 1 is the better cold weather choice. That being said, it also seems clear that GC is more than adequate to the task and you already have it on hand. The answer should be clear.

This thread compared the cold pumping characteristics of Mobil 1 0W40 and GC and it seems clear that the Mobil 1 is the better cold weather choice. That being said, it also seems clear that GC is more than adequate to the task and you already have it on hand. The answer should be clear.

Automobile magazine February 2012 issue. Their test BMW 535i had one service at 21,756 miles. If this is to be believed they ran the factory fill to almost 22,000 miles. This apparently is what BMW recommends.
