Blown engines on riding mowers.,,

On most non commercial lawn mowers the engine should really outlast the rest of it, especially a stamped steel deck, with just minimal maintenance; an oil change or two per year depending on lawn size and how long the season is.. If the engine is blown and the rest is in decent shape, I would wager the dipstick had never been pulled.

I've been looking for a rider mower for my sister on marketplace. And there's alot of them with blown engines. Is that because the engines are garbage, or do people just don't ever check the oil?.,,
The Kohler Courage single cylinder engines are truly garbage, which grind up their balancing assembly, and also are known to crack the engine block. The briggs intek single cyl are one step better but still garbage, as they are known to blow head gaskets constantly, drop valve guides and seats frequently, and quite a few of them ruin their camshafts.
