Are the blends so hard to find on the shelf anymore because the conventional oils are blends already? Are oils labled as synblends being fazed out?

From what I have read Amsoil XL is a Grp III Synthetic. Also MaxLife is a blend.

blends probably not selling well; if you're spending extra on better oil, people will usually just spend even a bit more and get full synthetic. me, i buy either one or the other and blend it myself, that way i know my percent synthetic is 50%, instead of some unknown mystery. MC synthetic blend is pretty cheap; I suspect is only has a tiny amount of synthetic.

Well, I definitely could be wrong. I thought I remembered Pablo saying it was a blend.

And its cousin Trop-artic blend is the same amount??? Also is the MC blend's GP-III derived from Korea like the Trop-artic is?

I used to think the MC blend was a lesser oil than Trop-artic but almost the same...now I wonder if they are totally different or just the same bases with a differnt additive pkg?

I agree with you Scoobie and have begun blending my own as well.

MaxLife also comes in a Full Synthetic. However, i think you will most commonly find the blend on the shelves. I do believe that the Full Synthetic version is also slightly thicker per given weight than its syn blend counterpart.

My roller skate Hyundai is on a Motorcraft 5W20 OCI right now. Got 2K on it, it's lovely. Level hasn't dropped, clear as water, perfect clear stripe on the dipstick. For a lousy 9 or 10 bucks for this stuff for 5 quarts a year or so back, what's not to like? Best thing is, over 7500 miles, that extra quart may come in handy if it needs a top off. If not, it's mower-oil with a splash of SLOB and a dot of VSOT.

SLOB and VSOT. Anyone even bother with those cat-fouling snake oils anymore? I only use them in the mower and for chain saw bar oil, myself. I consider that the VSOT might be good chain lube for my bicycle, but not my bike.

All ConocoPhillips Group III comes from Korea. The main difference in any of their products is the additive package. The Motorcraft is every bit as good at Trop Arctic and in some cases it might be a little better.

I love SLOB and have maybe 30 bottles for doping my oil. VSOT is good for thickening, but a good synthetic 20w50 would be the preferred thickening agent in my opinion.
