Blackstone Prices

Got an E-Mail today Blackstone is raising prices effective 1 January 2025. $40 for sample without TBN, $50 with TBN. Mucho denero for such slow service.
Thanks for that info. Are there any good UOA labs that will do it for $20 and free postage on the oil sample?

I think this is a mistake they are already the most expensive and slowest, and the Fuel numbers are questionable.

OAI and BlackStone got samples same day and I've had results from OAI for something like 5 days to a week and still nothing from BS.

I'm a decent customer of theirs and they are pushing my tolerance.

I fell like the opposite of the old saying about good fast and cheap is true.

I agree with all above.

That's very expensive for the slow service and unhelpful fuel numbers.

I've used them a lot cause it's convenient getting a free kit and not the end of world if you lose it / mess it up. However, I'm probably moving away from them soon.

Dump Blackstone. Polaris is fully ISO 17025 certified and uses all of the latest ASTM testing methodologies including gas chromatography for fuel content versus the VERY subjective test that Blackstone uses which is usually off by miles on the low side.

Polaris also includes either TBN or TAN (depending on the oil type) at no extra charge. I use the non-postage paid KIT06 kits which are $22.15 with preferred member pricing. I typically send a few at a time so the postage cost is offset somewhat. They also offer postage paid kits.

@Pablo can set you up with a preferred membership which, if you buy a few things in a year will pay for itself.

I have used Polaris for years.Lucky for me I live in Indy Indianapolis and pass by on my way from work so no postage. Dropped off e samples yesterday. Turn around is usually 2 or 3 days.

If I'm going to pay that much then it had better be accurate and timely - BS is neither. I could not be happier with Oil Analyzers.

I switched over to OAI and buy the pre-paid UPS sample kits from Amsoil for $32 as a PC. Check in with Pablo if you need more info. My recent sample had a 7 day turn around time shipping UPS from Iowa. Impressive service.

Is there a list of current vendors and pricing?
If you have a caterpillar dealer near you it's around $13 and they send it in after you drop it off. I've never got or asked about tbn and they're not going to have the database of different vehicles like blackstone does.

Might be worth it if they also included gas chromatography, oxidation, and a 1 week turnaround time. Oh, wait. OAI does that already, and for less $$.

The only thing I like better (and @Ayrton alluded to it above) is that you don't pay til you send your sample in.
