I know a handful of states (IA, MN, OK) offer blackout license plates and there is a bill going through the legislature in my state that I'm hoping is approved to create these as an option here too. I'm a big fan of the clean design, and they look great especially on black or white vehicles. Thoughts? Does anyone have these issued on your own vehicle(s)? If passed and available I'll pay to have these on both of my cars and the bike.

What are blackout plates? Thanks
Here is MN's blackout plate:

They are becoming more and more common here now that they've been out a year or so. They look best on a black vehicle or a white vehicle with black accents in my opinion.
Agreed, although one of mine is a non-metallic gray with black accents and I think it will look great there as well.

I think they look good, but I don't want to pay an extra $30 a year for them. The State gets enough money the way it is IMO.
Governor Rod Blagojevich made a comment many years ago that IL should charge more for license plates since so many people in the state were willing to shell out extra money for vanity or specialty plates. I didn't want to give him the wrong impression so I never got those plates. :ROFLMAO:

And I have to say that it was a very happy day when Dad's Ranger finally qualified for Antique Plates.

I’m seeing them in NJ now. Not legal AFAIK. But usually the car has a badge or PBA sticker in the windshield…….
I'm talking about state-issued "specialty" plates that have a solid black background and white lettering. The states currently issuing them in most cases will issue them for passenger vehicles and motorcycles without restriction given the fee is paid.
