My parents owned a Comet and Maverick of mid '70s vintages and they were truly horrible vehicles, but I thought they were kind of cute at the time...our '66 Comet was much uglier to my eyes, but the totally washed out paint job was a big factor there. Almost looked like chalk applied to bare metal...dad's big old Merc got the garage and looked much nicer, but it was a bit frustrating to have a good looking vehicle that didn't run sit inside while the car that actually worked sat out in Chicago winters. Vinyl seats can feel like wood when it's cold enough!

Some of the Fiats available outside of North America don't look any better.

"The Italians are coming, the Italians are coming." And what showed up? The Fiat 500 POP.

The Austin Allegro gets a lot of flack whenever BMLC is mentioned. It was an upgrade of the popular ADO16...the 1100 and 1300 in various clones, and mechanically the upgrades were pretty good. The radiator finally got moved to the front, and more room in the engine bay, and the suspension got gas cylinders. But it's the body and interior the critisism was aimed at...and I've no complaint about that, it sure was ugly. When one came in back in the day, I would put a little nick in the A of Austin with a felt tip pen to make it into an R.

Yes. And the styling isd perfect...because form follows function. In this case, "function" being 200MPH on the high banks at Talledaga.

At the risk of being obvious (well, obvious outside the US)

Object of near universal derision, and the best 40 quid I ever spent.

There's something wrong with that one, though. No starting handle.

Must be a transitional model to the Mk2 which was inferior, naturally, since it was updated in various minor but irritating ways.

A guy I knew with a 304 Gremlin, it was a pretty respectable car (good power/weight ratio)

Some dude built a "stock appearing" Gremlin with a 455 Buick GS engine.... wicked fast sleeper.
