BITOG's Oil Changes - in 2010

Thats true. Legally they can use the term synthetic for Group 3 oils. Most oil companies jumped on the bandwagon, including some Boutique oils.

Still the gap is closing, and the used oil analysis reports for some of the off the shelf oils are very, very good. That could be another reason for the change. Again JMO

If you combine PP+PU numbers, then M1 was definitely knocked out of #1 for the last month and a half.

MC5000 is of course its own category (10th from the left on the bar graph). I combined the M1's, I suppose a bit out of laziness

, but I figured that, say, the 0W-40 and the 5w30 formulations are already different enough that it wasn't necessary to give EP or ESP their own categories. Too late now

I don't recall seeing the blend (MC7500) used in this time period.

Perhaps they all have their spikes at times, but I say it's a pretty good marketshare still - if you add up all the boutiques, it's about the size of the BP/Castrol chunk, and with virtually no advertising compared to what BP's thrown out.

In fact, Amsoil+RP~=Supertech, and that's pretty surprising to me. Yes, 99% of the Super Tech users won't know BITOG, but it at least reflects the "deal hunter" numbers on this forum - and I thought there would be more deal hunters/cheapskates.

There was a time when ''GC'' would have needed its own listing, and now is deep in also ran territory. PU may be higher due to those that must try the newest thing.

Too bad fear of getting beat up could be keeping people from posting.

Keeping people from posting what?
I see no fear here - except maybe those afraid to go against the grain of this new cult

I think because all the cheapskate grannies here badmouth the "boutique" oils so much and rant "just buy the cheapest oil you can find" so much that people get scared. That was a joke - sorta.
But to be honest, I fell for that this month and stopped using RP to try the Toyota stuff. Not at all based on cost, but just the banter back and forth on other things being as good (or better?)
Not sure. I think I put way too much thought into it and psych'd myself out.
I have to laugh at the Ultra numbers though - talk about drinking Kool-Aid before the data is in...

How do you get data though if no one tries it?

I can see that being true

I don't think it's fear of being beaten up, I think it's just the repetitive posting of the same thing over and over. If someone's used GC for the past two years and is planning on continuing to use GC I think they're less likely to post about it every time, as opposed to people who are excited to try the Hot New Thing (tm). You have a better chance of measuring hype in the OC thread than you do what members are actually using.
