Sorry for the poor cell phone pictures but i had to get this one really quick.
This is a disguise auto,it appear to be the next generation Mini. The car is much larger than the current version.Sorry no front shot as we couldn't get in front of it because of slow traffic and the guy was doing his best to avoid us after seeing i was snapping pics.
Being owned by BMW the car had München plates, these were taken in Nürnberg 160km north so i assume a long test drive.

Thanks for the pics!

Before I scrolled down, I could only see the top of the car and thought it was a Range Rover at first, judging by the roof line.

From the hood cut outs and the overall body shape it sure looks like a Mini built by BMW (previously by austin, leyland)
BMW may be working on something for the small BMW line based on the Mini floor pan with this car it is taller and overall bigger (17 inch wheels from what i saw on the tire size) than the present Mini but has the distinct Mini shape.

As to why would a car would get "bigger" it´s possible the car was too small in the first place e.g. the Smart for two which is just too small to be practical for a single car household, slightly larger with a little luggage space and space for the kids then the car becomes truly viable for the one car family.

my 1979 Commodore was just over a tonne.

a 2010 Commodore is 80% more...Focus XR-5 is nearly a tonne and a half

edit... If you ask 100 former buyers what they would change about anything, how many "more space" answers would you get versus "less space" ?

that's what's going on w/ the Mazda5; it's a JDM car brought over to the US hardly changed at all. most all complaints are 'seats too small' , or 'needs a little more space'. well, heck, if you want more space get a 'mini' van!
cars overall have gotten too big, again. all the Japanese stalwarts; accord, maxima, corolla, 626 (now mazda6).
keep the mini as a mini. you want more market share, make another model bigger if you want but keep the niche vehicles in their 'niche'.

It can't be a Clubman. It's a 4-door; the Clubman is a 2-door.

The only 4-door Mini is the new Countryman: http://www.insideline.com/mini/countryman/2011-mini-cooper-countryman-first-look.html

The one in the pic seems lower and has slightly different bodywork though, so...

Its a 5 door. Didnt they already have a clubman wagon? I never liked the mini due to overstyled interior, high price and the dodge neon engine. I hear it uses a peugot engine now?

I think this is the new Countryman instead, the SUV type Mini.

Should be launch begining of next year, I think.

Edit: Sorry, I slept on the answer (being called by the boss).

Interesting. Of course, after seeing the interior of my friend's 08 the other day, I have to wonder why the standard 2 door Mini has a back seat... It's too close to the front seat (especially if the front passengers are over 5'6") to put people back there, and you could fit more stuff without it.

This is the Mini I had and it had back seats and was way smaller than the new ones...

Boy am I glad to be rid of this maintenance nightmare. *UGH*
