Bigger filter for 2005 Caravan 3.3

I've read that you can use a bigger filter on the dodge 3.3 engine for example PH8 instead of PH16. Are there any drawbacks to this? How much more oil will it add to the system? With a standard filter it takes 5 qts, I was thinking with the larger filter it would be closer to 5 1/2 quarts.

No drawbacks unless you are under warranty, other than if a filter actually fails and causes a damage (virtually unheard of but not impossible) the filter manufacturer will tell you to pound sand if you try to make a claim using the off spec filter.

Properly done there are no downsides and potentially slight gains, like more holding capacity and media.

Filter don't hold as much as you'd think, going from a PH16 to a PH8A will not net you another half quart, but about a quarter quart at most.

Oversize away!

I have 4 mopar 2.2-2.5 4's, 3 3.3 v6's and a 3.8. I use motorcraft FL1-A filters on all of them. Several years ago W/M discounted all their Motorcraft filters, I bought a whole sack full of FL1-A's at $2.77 each. I still have 4 left.

I use NAPA Gold oil filter 1085 and Wix 51085 on my 2004 Chrysler Town & Country with the 3.3 engine and have had no problems at all.

That should be the standard filter. The next longer filter is the (5)1068 followed by the (5)1515.

A half quart will not make any difference. I know the original size for those Mopars has a higher burst rating than the larger PH8. This was from Purolator's data.
