Big lots to close all stores

Ours went down hill quite a bit over the years. They had a decent automotive section in the past. They raised prices to Walmart levels with a much worse selection. Only thing I would buy there is candy a few times a year. It closed a month or more ago. They did it to themselves. You can't be a discount/closeout style store with normal prices.

My dad bought a one pound tube of Permatex blue RTV at Big Lots on clearance. (35 years ago) He used it on his tractor, truck, tiller, and….commode. “Tired of it leaking around the wax ring”. It stopped the leak but whoever had the job of removing that commode had to bust it with a sledgehammer!

They used to have some good deals-I used to buy cheap tools from them, but the deals dried up. Thought they were owned by the Schottensteins, of Value City Dept. stores?
nope. the only connection there is both based in Columbus.
the Corp. was originally "Consolidated Stores Corp." that's who dad worked for. they had a few other brands besides BigLots for a while in the 90's, and dad had all their brands in his district... BigLots, Itzadeal, All 4 Less, and for a brief period KB toys... but eventually they changed the Corp name to Big Lots.
and Yes, they were an investor in DeLorean, and when the company Folded, bought all the remaining stock of cars and spares...

The Big Lots near me had "closing" signs up on Saturday. Signs also said, "10%–30% off, nothing held back!"

But I bought some food items there, noticed no discount on the receipt, and the cashier said food items had no discount. "Nothing held back!" did not apply to that stuff. She had rung up my purchase, and all sales were final, so I was stuck. For a couple of dollars in a store that's closing anyway,

Now maybe we have some answers about why the company is going out of business.

Daily Job Cuts . Com

Lots of companies are laying off employees.

Big Lots had financial problems for a few years.

Just heard The Container Store filed for bankruptcy
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/container-store-bankruptcy-stores-locations-open/

These stores/companies having financial issues are not a surprise. Big Lots lost their way, Arctic Cat has priced themselves out of business, and The Container Store sells containers at extremely high prices when one can use a cardboard box.
Again-NONE OF THIS IS A SURPRISE.
The amazing thing about container store is how long they actually stayed in biz. Hahahaha joke company

When my kids were home, we shopped there all the time for deals; 2 teenage boys ate me out of house and home. When they left, I noticed prices going up, and it was just me, so I stopped. Me and my new wife would stop from time to time the last few years out of convenience vs them having better prices. Sad.

I like closeouts, deals, etc. many years ago Big Lots had closeouts, etc. over the past decade, every time I stopped at Big Lots I left empty handed, and shocked Big Lots was selling items prices higher than regular retail stores.

My experience as well. I would walk around there on my lunch break once in a while to get out of the office. I don't think I actually purchased anything within five years.
