BG Synchro or Redline MT-90?

BG Synchroshift or Redline MT-90 (75w90)? Any opponents/propponents of each? Anyone tried both? My local import mechanic swears by BG Synchro.

This oil would go into a 5-speed manual transmission of an Audi A4 1.8T with the purpose of smoothing out cold weather shifting as well as decreasing the overall notchiness (if at all possible given that I already have a short shifter

)

I put Redline MT-90 in my Civic a few days ago.

The transmission has always been smooth so I can't tell a difference between HOnda gear box oil and Redline.

Just make sure it's GL4 or GL5 as specc'd in owners handbook. If GL5 then say Redline 75w90NS would be good. Excellent shifting when cold.

The recommendation to follow the little book is good. If a GL2-GL5 75W-90 gear oil is recommended the MT should be a good choice as would be Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90.

I'd becareful here. Check your owner's manual. If it specs a GL-4 use a GL-4 only gear lube. I've used Redline MTL and MT-90 will great success in these cases. If you use a GL-4,5 spec gear oil, and you have yellow metals in the transmission (synchro's-blocking rings), I wouldn't use those GL-4,5 oils in it. My Nissan dealer uses bulk Valvoline GL-4,5 gear oil when they have had to service my transmission, and it is more notchy to shift than when I use a Redline MT-90 GL-4 only oil. In my Modded Camaro SS w/ the T-56 6 speed transmission, GM recommends Dexron III, GL-4 oil. I've had a notchy shift history, especially when cold and have tried all kinds of Dexron III transmission fluids w/ Pennzoil Dexron III being the best. But, I would still have a bit of a notchy feel. This weekend I mixed 2 qts of Pennzoil w/ 2 qts. of Redline MTL, and so far it is has removed 80% of that notchy shift feel. I'm very pleased. IMHE

I have not used the MT-90 in Nissan Friontier but I am currently using the MTL and have used the Amsoil S2000 TGR in the past.

The MTL has proven to be best in terms of cold shift and noiseless operation.

I will have some GL analysis in about 4k to compare against Amsoil TGR.

Quattro Pete: I have some good friends that work for BG in Wichita that think a lot of their products. However I have never used them. I have used Red Line products in SAABS, VW'S and AUDI'S. Audi recommends a synthetic 75W90 GL-4 gear oil for their transmissions. The Red Line MTL is a 75W80 GL-4 and the MT-90 is a 75W90 GL-4. From my experience, I would use the Red Line MT-90. Whatever you decide on, DO NOT put a GL-5 gear oil in your Audi transmission, unless you want it to shift like a 1952 Ford truck.

I have used the MT90 Redline in a 96 Mazda 5 speed. The transmission was notchy from mile one and miserable in cold weather until it (finally) warmed up. The FIRST shift after putting in the RL the change from clunky to buttery smooth shifts was noticed. Cold weather did not change the smooth action at all. I'm sold on it.
