The local Toyota dealer does a complete transmission flush for $129.95 with 13 quarts of Toyota T-IV and a BG Chemical kit, which includes BG Quick Clean and BG ATC Plus.

Does anyone have any experience with these additives? I'm thinking about having this done on a 06 Corolla LE with nearly 27,000 miles on the original fluid if it needs to be (upon inspection). The car has only been in-service in a rental fleet for a little over a year, so it's nearly all highway miles.

Thanks in advance.

I've not heard anything negative about BG's line of fuel, tranny, or oil products.

The price for the flush, including the BG fluids, sounds reasonable. You're smart to do a full flush on this ride, as T-IV ain't the greatest ATF going, especially in a rental car.

How did you determine it has mostly highway miles on it?

The car's original in-service date was toward the end of July 2006, and the vehicle was pulled out of service several months ago.

I would think that it would be mostly highway miles, but I may very well be wrong. After all, it's difficult to accumulate 27,000 miles worth of city or short trip driving in a little over a year.

It needs a flush. But, it doesn't need any additives for cleaning or treating.

13 quarts of T-IV costs?? Do a cooler line flush yourself.

Be careful with dealers. The dozens that I've visited over the years rarely use OE fluids that are marked on the reciept or as quoted. Bulk oil is more convenient and more profitable.

Rental Corollas are beat up in 27k miles. I hope that it was cheap. Its a great reliable and economical vehicle.

And, with a drainplug, why not simple drain/refill 3-4 times and go from there. If the dealer tries to rob you for t-iv, castrol import is a blend and will work well here.

Picked up the car last weekend, it was in very good condition IMO. Oil was changed every 5k, engine and cabin air filters have been replaced, new Bridgestone tires in the front.

The fluid looks fine for over 27,000 miles of highway driving. I think I'll buy a case of T-IV from the dealer and take it to a shop and have them do the flush eventually. Probably when it gets closer to the 50-60k mark. Either that or I'll just take it to the dealer again. This dealer seems pretty good and they do use T-IV as far as I can tell.

Were it mine, I wouldn't wait until the 50-60K mark. Even if it still looks good, odds are that the additive package is at least somewhat depleted. I'd be willing to pay the few bucks now.

Please don't dump all of us in that group as we do use OE fluid (although we get it bulk) inn our services. And no it ain't cheap either. We get to buy it only 5% over dealer cost and it is still cheaper at Walmart!!! Go figure.

BG stuff is fine. If you don;t want them to use it just ask them not to add additives as you don't believe in. Will be just fine.
