My truck came stock with P265/70R16 LongTrail T/A's and at this point I need 2 news but BFG has switched the treat pattern on the same model tire though it meets the same load, temp, and treadware specs. would it be safe to throw a pair of the new Long Trails on the rear axle?
also, anybody have experience with the new tread pattern on them?

My truck, 2014 4x4 Sierra currently has two different type tread from two different manufacturers on each axel. These tires are the same size overall, there may be the slight differences between the two makes.

I've done it before, done it for years, never had any issues. It could be one of those things that work for some but not others.

It depends also on the amount of tread left on the other two tires. If they are showing some wear, much better to replace all four tires at the same time.

The latest studies show that new tires should go on the rear, regardless of whether its a front wheel drive vehicle or not. Many national tire chains won't put 2 new tires anywhere but the rear.

The newer at rear requirement is generally for the new tires' usually better wet traction capability of keeping the rear end from breaking loose first and causing a spinout. Most people react by slowing / braking when the front breaks loose first, regaining control. Of course this counters the whole point of most FWD's one pair need for the new ones up front.

Personally I'm experienced at both and just tell them I'll sign off on any waivers. Old saying - "Oversteer scares the passenger. Understeer scares the driver."
