I've got my son's 2000 Cougar.......cut
..... 2 front tires were worn down to the belts with only 17,000 miles on them. The tire size is 205/55tr16. Are these tires that bad? Is it his driving (he's 19) or is it the car? He has the car 2 years. It came with new tires on it (some no name brand) which worn out in a year and now these BFG's are shot in a year. The shop is putting on Uniroyal tires which is all they have in that size. I hope they are better.

doesn't matter which tires you put on HIS car. front or rear wheel drive, the couger rated at 130-170 hp/torque - not even a monster by any means. He will continue to drive and peel/burn out his rubber as he is accustomed to, irregardless of brand/touring/performance etc.

suggestion - dad, if you continue to foot his these bills-he is not assuming any accountability for the costs of tires (probably consider tranny). Give him an allowance (monthly/yearly whatever) for car maint. and any overage is his to earn.
