I never said this was the tell all test and if you re-read my first post I said it was a crude test.

When every filter tested seals and these don't then that is enough for me to deem them to me MORE PROBABLE to not seal properly.

So don't get all propeller-head on me.

True, but I have been noticing some startup dry lifter clatter that was not there before using these filters.

Does the clatter go away with the Maxlife filters?

Never happened before even with the Fram X2 but it has a silicone ADBV and sealed really well.

The thing is every one of the Maxlife filters were airtight right out of the box.

The about of air being let through is enough that even when oiled it will sill not seal properly.


 
Will soon find out, the next oil change is soon.

Noise was not there until I started using these filters.
 
I really like this blow test.

What gets me is I think they have a very thin layer of WD40 or cosmoline or some anti-rust or cutting oil. One has to pucker their lips like blowing into a trumpet to not taste the stuff. Depending on how deep the threads are in relation to the gasket and baseplate it's a tough seal.

Some of this cosmolene seems to be on the ADBV as well which should make it not totally dry and perhaps pliable enough.

I suppose I could get a hollow bolt with my 3/4x16 thread pitch and make a "mouthpiece". Shoot I could probably put an air tool widget on there and test burst strength (Just kidding... kind of... the rubber would pop first which wouldn't apply to it being mounted on the car)
 
Bringing this topic back from last week...

I purchased several filters for my Nissan truck. I bought two Nippon filters, two Mahle filters, and one Mann filter. All filters were purchased from a on-line source.

When they arrived I also did the pneumatic pressure test. One of the Nippon filters passed air unrestricted, all other filters were air tight.

So what I am going to do is use the two Nippon filters as my test. I'll install the leaky filter and see if I get unusual start-up noise and run it for a week. When I remove it I'll again blow air into the outlet and see if it still leaks. This could get messy but it's all in the name of curiosity satisfaction. Then I'll install the air tight Nippon filter and see if there's any noticeable difference.

Regardless of this outcome, I am going to stick with the Mahle filters. For $2.35 this is the heaviest and nicest looking filter I've seen for the Nissan.
 
inspected the defective filters and there was a defect.

The ADBV could be seen bulging around the center outlet hole.

Manufacturing error.
