It's a Motorcraft oil filter.

Blue, MC is typically pretty tight lipped with efficiency specs (dagnabbit!). We have been operating off little tidbits of info, such as the recent Amsoil filter test that showed an FL-820S was around 94% @ 20 um, which is better than the Beta you quoted. That assumes MC uses the same media in all or most of the similarly sized filters (something that seems to be true among most filter mfrs.)

That Beta is not very impressive compared to other top tier filters. While it's wiithin the average of "regular" filters, it's at the low end of it. Many "average" filters are in the 2/20=10/20 range or about 95% @ 20 um (including the orange can. The Puro Classic is a little better and the P1 even better yet. What brand of filter is it?

I deserved that. I left myself wide open.

That has been one of my beefs with Wix, their efficiency is not very good especially for the price but they are otherwise a very well built filter no doubt. At least the Golds and black Wix are, I've seen some issues with the Wix cheapies that Napa sells.

I do not like their thread end ADBV valve arrangement either. And some of the Wix have recently been converting to a combo ADBV/Bypass valve, hmmmm that would be suspect also.

Just things to consider.

For using the same "glass enhanced media", The Napa Gold/Wix filter beta ratios seem to vary wildly at times as well.

Of course, I'm just assuming it's the same.

One thing to keep in mind is that filter media, and efficiency, may vary (a little or a lot) between one application and another, or even over one period of time or another (perhaps a change of media supplier or???). If the old Wix spec sheets could be believed (today, the numbers are a little suspect), there were wide variances in the efficiency specs for the filters by application.

The best idea, if possible, is to ask for specific data on a specific part number. I have done that with a few filters and in a case or two, the specific number was in variance from "published" generic numbers.

The bottom line is, if you are pedantic like me, there is no instant gratification of the desire for detailed product knowledge.

This surprises me, as WIX GOLD is supposed to be one of the better oil filters on the market.

Per who? Yeah, WIX is a good filter ... there are lots of good filters on the market. If filtering efficiency is what you're after, then WIX isn't really near the top with 95% @ 31 microns.

Ok, in layman's terms, it's better built than the OCOD.
Geeze, you FRAM-a-holics are unreal!

Only FRAM I use is the Ultra. Otherwise, I'm a PureOne-a-holic.

A cautionary tale about oil filtration.Several decades ago, a salesman called on the purchasing department of a Denver area REA G&T[power generation and transmission]. Had a good deal on filters used at our Western Slope powerplant. Lower price than the OEM filters with comparable specs for turbine steam control and stop valves. Didn't bother to get plant maintenance personnel's input. Turbine trips and lost generation at $5,000 + per hour. Particle contamination of control and stop valve servos. Repeat same circle jerk for ? times. Mechanical planner asks warehouse to bring an EHC[electro-hydraulic-control] filter emement to the power house for a look see. Sweet holy Moses, what the heck is this? Never heard of this filter brand. Do some sleuthing. Telephone the supplier. Oh heck yes, those filter elements are as good as GE's, you saved a lot of money by going to an alternate filter element. Not true. All filter elements are not created equal.Regards

Z06, didn't you have a P1 that had torn media during a OCI?

It was a Purolator Classic. Never seen any issues with the PureOnes. They use different media, and I'm thinking the Classic's media tears easier if any pleat tries to get folded over. Here's the thread.
