CRC or CRC MAF cleaner on cars with the MAF sensor mounted in the throttle body itself (many GM 3800 Gen II), regular cleaner can destroy it if its not removed first.

I could care less about any coating that is used in the throttle body. If crud accumulates, then the coating isn't all that great and is only delaying the process. I'd rather lose the coating and clean more often than try to baby the coating.
Nobody said the coating had to be babied. I've cleaned the TB one time in 130K miles, so I wouldn't really call that babying anything. I'd rather spend $5 on the right type of cleaner once in 130K than use brake or carb cleaner more frequently.
