If Bilsteins are naturally firm, I need something else. Ride quality matters A LOT to my wife.Agreed, cushy is the last thing I'd use to describe them.

Actually ride quality is exceptional. I think it is perfect compromise between comfort and firm.If Bilsteins are naturally firm, I need something else. Ride quality matters A LOT to my wife.
Heat yes, dry weather, no. I live in the swamps! We run from floods, LOLNew good rubber bushings for less travel and banging and sound insulation.
Edit: I see that you are in Texas, definitely do the bushings. The heat and the dry weather eat rubber for lunch.
Good point with the bushing sizes, that helps. I would never guess bilstien would give a "cushy" ride, but I guess some damping is needed to control a live rear axle. I would go to a GM truck forum and ask there TBH.Bilstein.
Here is a pic of where i replaced gabriel ultras with bilsteins on my avalanche. Take note of the rubber bushing size and that the bolt bushing was uniform on the bilstein, a flat piece rolled into a circle on the gabriel.
Bilstein, hands down.

Agreed. I put a set of B6 struts and shocks on my E350 when the original shocks wore out. They are tuned to give a little of that sports car feel, but at the same time give a nice luxury car feel. I like them better the car better than what it felt like with the original struts/shocks.
But for a truck, wouldn't you think that the B6 would be a good choice? While the OP may want a cushy ride in his truck, it also needs to feel capable. I would think any shock made for a truck is going to be tuned towards that feel, including the B6 that were recommended.
Your problem is that it's a pickup. The suspension is designed to handle the maximum payload not provide a cush rideIf Bilsteins are naturally firm, I need something else. Ride quality matters A LOT to my wife.
In my opinion Bilsteins are on the firm side. I installed 6100's front and 5100's on the rear of my 2018 nissan titan and the ride was uncomfortable. I would suggest looking at fox 2.0 for a more cushy ride.
Your springs will have a bigger impact in ride quality than the shocks. On a 97, you probably need both.I have a 1997 Chevy c1500. Its a single cab long bed, 185K miles, 4.3L V6. Its driven almost all on road, 90% highway - suburban, and 10% city. It has street tires with highway tread. I realized it still has the original shocks still on it. What shock should I try to get the best most comfortable ride?
Only way to fly. I put a set on my Tundra when I first got it. 100% satisfied.Bilstein!
