Best powered subwoofer under $400, for stereo (not movies)

This thread has me messing around with my subs and looking at “bougie-er” options. I have a Yamaha 8”, Klipsch 12”, and an Audioengine S6 I’ve been playing with in different combos and placements. The RSL is intriguing and also looking at the SVS 3000 Micro…

@Pablo what is the purpose of this sub, what are you going to jam out too?

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?
It varies a lot.

Vinyl Beggars Banquet on the turntable. So clean and well recorded, Rolling Stones growling rock sounds good on this set up. I think the Marantz amp does it justice told by jumping from "source direct". This record was amazingly clean out of the well yellowed inner sleeve. I probably bought this around 1975, not 1969.

Yeah, my worst experiences have been with these recent "remastered" albums which sound like absolute ass. Ohhhh, heavy pressing! Doesn't mean a **** thing when the recording is ass. My best sounding album is a UK import of Metallica's "LOAD", which was not a 3rd party production, it was something they chose to manufacture for the UK during the time of recording. It's a 2-LP set and it sounds absolutely incredible.

I have the Jamo version of the Klipsch SPL-120, and it's a monster. This is an older model, but still available for about $400. Adding this to my system has been a revelation. I just love it. It's adjustable, so position your sub where it sounds best in your room, and adjust the gain to suit your listening pleasures.

The amp burned out after about 7 years or so. Bought a new one and got it back working easily, though. Reading about similar failures, and the recommendation is to simply turn the unit off when not using. I left mine in "standby" at all times, which apparently, is not ideal.

Some bash Klipsch, but I feel they make some amazing stuff. Good bang for the buck.

Turning off my sub is a bit of a pain. I have to reach behind it, and toggle a small switch. After doing it a couple dozen times, I can do it by feel now. Some may claim it's not needed, but I'm on the train now...
I bought one of those wireless remote power strips for mine, $14. Keep the remote in the basket with my TV remote.

Yeah. I got the Klipsch RSW-112. I paid $316 delivered. I read about leaving it in standby but also read about folks having amp issues.
Had for 5 years with the remote shutoff and it it's been stellar.

Recommend a sub, under $400, that has good tonal quality not shake the house movie stuff. Thanks!
Has to be a sealed port if you want clean low end. I'd go no bigger than a 10" as I've found 12"15 and 18's start getting into super low frequencies. My MTX's sound really nice and clean in a sealed box and I think are still made in the usa in Wisconsin. They're worth a look and seem to be overlooked many times.
