Best oil recommended for mk 4 vw jetta 1.8t and 2.0 gas motul or liqui moly and which one in the product line

Mobil 1 0w40 or Castrol 0w40, both at Walmart for around $25. They meet VW's 502.00

Nothing special about Motul or Liqui Moly that either of the above can't do.

Been using mobil 1 0w40 engine seems to run rougher then when i first got the car and had higher end oil in from a performance shop not sure what though bought them used

roofless, do you know of any place where we can get Castrol 0W30 for prices similar to their 0W40 and M1's 0W40? Seems like that oil is impossible to find these days.

I've purchased it on Amazon before. Per quart it's about the same price as the 0W-40. There's really no reason to run it over the 0W-40, but sometimes you just want to run something different. :P

$22.97 at Walmart, I sold my MKIV VW last year, but it was a diesel. If it were gas, this is what I'd have used.

I don't think I have ever seen 0W30 in 5 quart bottles unfortunately

The times I've bought it, I happened to find it on clearance at my local AZ for $1/quart. It seems like it's being phased out from store shelves sadly. If I was able to find some 0W30 for the same price/quart as the two 0W40 oils, I would be all over it :P

I had a 1.8t B5 Passat (2003) and always used Mobil 1 0W-40 without any issues.

Try to use oils that have the VW502.00 approval on the label.

I think many oils that dont have it can be used without any issues however for peace of mind the Mobil 1 is readily available.

Also try to to get bigger sized filter, if i recall correctly those engines are prone to sludge, i used to buy a K&N filter and there were 2 versions, always buy the bigger one.

Cheers.

Chris/Gena: we already have the shelves displaced from SOPUS take over (I'm not sure how this got done) - so if this is going to become a full time sales site on top of that - the products in my current inventory will be the last from Royal Dutch Shell ...
