I changed to synthetic after 5k on my audi. Oh well well see how long it lasts.

Well, I have disagreed with waiting until over 10k miles to change to synthetic with the Nissan VQ engine and will do so again. Since I began using synthetics in the early '90s, I have had about 8 Nissans with the VD or VQ engines including my current 2k3 Max which had the same engine as the G35. I have always changed over to synthetic at about 2000 miles with a dino change of oil at about 800 miles. No oil consumption or engine issues in any of them.

I think as long as the engine is broken in properly and the rings loaded and unloaded, it is perfectly ok to switch to synthetic in the VQ per the above. Of course, there are those who argue the 4k, 6k, 10k and even 20k timeframe before switching to synthetic in the VQ. I think this debate will continue forever.
